Find Out Your Management Style With Escape Rooms!
Tue, 03 Mar, 2020
Playing an escape room as part of a teambuilding experience with your colleagues can help with revealing the different management styles of the people around you.
Whether your individual style results in effective management or not is up for debate, but let’s take a look at four unique types of leadership and how they manifest in an escape room environment!
1. Democratic
In the Workplace:
Democratic managers believe that each member of staff should have their own say when important corporate decisions are to be made; creating a workforce that feels trusted and determined to repay that trust.
In an Escape Room:
A democratic manager will let the group delegate their own roles in an escape game; as well as decide the order they want to complete puzzles in. Their presence in the room will keep things ordered and chaos will be kept to a minimum.
2. Inspirational
In the Workplace:
Inspirational managers have a desire to see people grow and fulfil their potential. They do this with their excellent personal skills and through constant encouragement that they’ll give out as often as possible.
In an Escape Room:
These individuals have a positive attitude and a good-natured personality, which helps to create an upbeat atmosphere while promoting fun and cooperation. In an escape room environment, inspirational managers are great to have around as their presence will motivate employees to put their all into the game and to get involved at every step of the way!
3. Authoritative
In the Workplace:
Authoritative managers are people who like being seen, heard and obeyed. They are incredibly hands-on, preferring to micro-manage at every opportunity. They’ll personally delegate tasks and nothing will be done without them knowing about it!
In an Escape Room:
In an escape room, authoritative managers will be the ones who decide the plan, roles and pace of play. If someone in the group isn’t pulling their weight, or if things are going too slowly – you’re definitely going to know about it! The game will run smoothly as long as you don’t get on their bad side…
4. Hands-Off
In the Workplace:
The hands-off manager is there if you need them, but they have an intense belief in non-intervention, giving little to no supervision – allowing their colleagues to go and do whatever and wherever they please.
In an Escape Room:
An escape room with a hands-off manager can be quite chaotic, but also incredibly fun! In this pressure-free environment the true selves of each team member will be revealed, eventually bringing everyone closer together!
