What Our Kids Can Teach Us In Escape Rooms
Tue, 19 May, 2020
We can learn a lot from our kids, you know. Escape rooms are a place where youngsters have the freedom to pave their own path in a safe environment. It may sound like a chaotic prospect, but it’s here where we’ve seen kids go above and beyond expectations – even teaching us adults one or two important life skills along the way! Let’s take a look at what those might be…
#1 Stranger Things Have Happened…
The key to a successful escape attempt is being able to think outside the box – something children truly excel at doing! Youngsters are naturally imaginative and can often come up with creative solutions that would seem too outlandish for adults to even consider. The weirder and stranger an idea is, the better!
#2 Move Swiftly On
Let’s just say that kids aren’t renowned for their attention spans… While this could (rightly!) be viewed as a hindrance in the classroom, it’s an entirely different story in an escape room environment! We’ve seen plenty of teams get stuck on just one idea, which they flat-out refuse to abandon. Kids, on the other hand, have mastered the art of swiftly moving on once it’s clear a solution isn’t going to work!
#3 Seek Out Help
When it comes to asking for help, kids are brilliant, and adults… not so much. When kids encounter a problem, they have no hesitation in seeking out the nearest friend or adult for an explanation. This curious mindset is perfect for escape rooms, as you’re tasked with solving one problem after another. Now, if you’re ever truly stuck on a seemingly unsolvable puzzle, simply ask the game master for a hint!
#4 Simple is Smart
You only have a limited time of 60 minutes to complete the game; and while the allotted time is more than enough for the average group, the minutes can disappear pretty quickly once overthinking takes hold! Adults often try to be too cute or clever when all that’s required is simplicity. That’s the beauty of escape room psychology – the blend of puzzle difficulties from complex to straightforward (with a red herring or two thrown in) will have you second-guessing yourself at every interval!
#5 HAVE FUN!
Need we say more? Escape rooms can be competitive, intense, challenging, frustrating – all of the above! But you should always remember to keep in mind one simple fact: it’s only a game. Take a step back, let your hair down and soak in the atmosphere with your friends, families and loved ones. At the end of the day, having fun is all that matters!
